Academy for Educational Development is an independent nonprofit service organization committed to addressing human development needs in the United States and throughout the world.  

BASICS  (Basic Support for Institutionalizing Child Survival) is a five-year international public health project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).  BASICS provides both technical leaders practical field programs for reducing infant and childhood illness and death worldwide.  

The Bernard van Leer Foundation seeks to enhance opportunities for children growing up in circumstances of social and economic disadvantage, with the objective of developing their innate potential to the greatest extent possible. They concentrate on children O-7 years because scientific findings have demonstrated that interventions in the early years of childhood are most effective in yielding lasting benefits to children and society.  

In the Brain Lab from New Horizons for Learning  you will find articles of current interest on various aspects of brain research and its implications for education.  

Child Trends, Inc. is a nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization that studies children, youth, and families through research, data collection, and data analysis.  

The Children's Defense Fund  provides a strong, effective voice for all the children of America who cannot vote, lobby, or speak for themselves. We pay particular attention to the needs of poor and minority children and those with disabilities. CDF educates the nation about the needs of children and encourages preventive investment before they get sick or into trouble, drop out of school, or suffer family breakdown.  

The Children's House is an interactive resource center- a meeting place for the exchange of information that serves the well-being of children.  Dedicated to supporting the generation and dissemination of knowledge about children's issues, Children's House facilitates the translation of the benefits of research and programming into policy and practive.  

Childwatch International is an international research network open to membership by institutions, associations and individuals involved in research on issues relating to children and children's development and well-being.  

Child Welfare works to insure that all children have opportunity--that all children have a fair start. The focus of their work is to examine the opportunities available to children and to further and enrich public discussion of this issue.  

The Consultative Group on Early Childhood Care and Development  is an international, inter-agency group dedicated to improving the condition of young children at risk. Working on several levels to keep young children on the agenda of policy-makers, funders and programme developers, the Consultative Group consists of a broad partnership of international organizations, a Secretariat and a group of Regional Representatives active in ECCD networks in diverse regions of the world.

Early Childhood.com is a  source of information for all who share an interest in improving the education and general life experience of young children. It's a place for getting advice from experts in the early childhood field, expanding your collection of creative projects, and sharing ideas and questions with the early childhood community.  

Early Childhood Education On Line  exists to promote and facilitate information management and exchange, and to serve as a resource and benefit for all children, their families, and all people who help them grow and learn.  

Early Childhood Educators' And Family Web Corner  is an index to all things early childhood.  

The Early Childhood Initiative at the University of Chicago is a comprehensive research program involving scholars who  study the biological, psychological and social factors that affect the cognitive development of young children. Their research focuses on early brain development, the growth of cognitive and language skills in young children, and the nature of environmental influences on these aspects of human growth.  

Early Learning from New Horizons is a set of articles addressing early childhood development.  

Education Development Center conducts research and develops programs in such areas as early child development, K-12 education, health promotion, workforce preparation, learning technologies and institutional reform.  

The Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC)  is a national information system designed to provide users with ready access to an extensive body of education-related literature.  

ERIC Clearinghouse on Elementary and Early Childhood Education  is one of 16 clearinghouses in the ERIC system, which is part of the National Library of Education, funded by the Office of Educational Research and Improvement (OERI), U.S. Department of Education. ERIC clearinghouses identify and select documents and journal articles, and then prepare entries describing the documents and articles to be incorporated in the ERIC database, the world's most frequently used collection of information on education. Clearinghouses also publish digests, monographs, and other publications; answer questions; disseminate information on the internet; and represent ERIC at conferences and workshops.  

Global ChildNet  is an organisation which uses the internet to offer a range of easily accessible, child health related, on-line services. These services include databases and other information on issues related to the well-being of the world's children.  

Global Information Network in Education (GINIE) (Univ. of Pittsburgh) contributes to the provision of educational services to citizens of or refugees from nations in emergency or post-emergency transition, by assisting governments, international organizations and NGOs to draw on collective past experience in order to fashion appropriate interventions quickly and efficiently. GINIE exists to help provide governments, donor and relief organizations with on-line information, both current and historical, on crisis- and change-oriented educational services and materials. 

Healthlink Worldwide works to improve the health of poor and vulnerable communities by strengthening the provision, use and impact of information.  

High/Scope Foundation is an independent non profit research, development, training, and public advocacy organization.  The Foundation principal goals are to promote the learning and develpment of children worldwide from infancy through adolescence, and to support and train educators and parents as they help children learn.  

I am Your Child  is an online center for information about early childhood development and resources for parents and caregivers.  

The International Consultative Forum on Education for All   is an international watchdog body, set up after the World Conference on Education for All in 1990 to promote and monitor progress towards Education for All. The Forum periodically brings together senior policy-makers and specialists from developing countries, international and bilateral development agencies, and non-governmental organizations. The Forum's activities include the quarterly EFA 2000 Bulletin and the EFA Forum web site, monitoring progress in EFA at country level, supporting regional networks of education journalists and publishing technical and promotional materials on EFA.  

The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) is a public corporation created by the Canadian government to help communities in the developing world find solutions to social, economic, and environmental problems through research.  

International Food Information Council  provides sound, scientific information on food safety and nutrition to journalists, health professionals, educators, government officials and consumers.  

International Youth Foundation (IYF) is an independent, international, nongovernmental organization dedicated to the positive development of children and youth, ages 5 to 20, worldwide.  

KidsCampaigns is a virtual encyclopedia of information for adults who want to make their communities better places for kids.  Through radio, print, and TV ads, a weekly email newsletter and a discussion forum, this award-winning project provides the tools to help people become more active citizens- from volunteering to voting- on behalf of kids.  

KidsHealth.org is dedicated to the direct healthcare of children, to basic and applied research, and to education for professionals and the public.  

Linkages provide technical support in breastfeeding to wide range of organizations with a view to influencing the behavior of mothers and their families, improving services, and advocating changes in policies. The tools LINKAGES uses to achieve improved breastfeeding and related complementary feeding and maternal dietary practices are a results-oriented behavior change methodology, quality and timely technical assistance, information, training, and policy analysis and advocacy.  

National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) exists for the purpose of leading and consolidating the efforts of individuals and groups working to achieve healthy development and constructive education for all young children.  Primary attention is devoted to assuring the provision of high quality early childhood programs for young children.  

National Center for Early Development & Learning  (NCEDL) focuses on enhancing the cognitive, social and emotional development of children from birth through age eight.  Their goals are: determine the state of the nation and conduct research on critical issues in early childhood practices, develop partnerships with diverse constituencies, synthesize knowledge and recommend future directions, translate research into practice and disseminate information to diverse audiences.  

National Institute on Early Childhood Development and Education sponsors comprehensive and challenging research in order to help ensure that America's young children are successful in school and beyond -- and to enhance their quality of life and that of their families.  

The National Institute on Out-of-School Time at the Center for Research on Women tries to improve the quantity and quality of school-age care programs nationally by concentrating in five primary areas: research; education and training; consultation; program and community development; and public awareness.  

New Horizons for Learning serves as a leading-edge resource for educational change. We have identified, communicated, and helped to implement successful educational strategies. Our role is to explore and to help implement ideas that have not yet reached the mainstream, and to work in coordination with other networks and learning communities.  

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)  is an international public health agency  working to improve health and living standards of the countries of the Americas.  The Organization's basic task is to collaborate with Ministries of Health, social security agencies, other government institutions, nongovernmental organizations, universities, community groups, and many others to strengthen national and local health systems and to improve the health of the peoples of the Americas.  

Perpetual Preschool  provides new and exciting resources for those who are involved in the education of young children.  

Save the Children Fund/UK is the leading charity working in the UK to create a better world for children. They work in 70 countries helping children in the world's most impoverished communities.  

Save the Children/USA is a nonprofit, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization working in more than 35 nations around the globe. Our mission is to make positive, lasting changes in the lives of children in need.  

The Thomas Coram Research Unit is a multidisciplinary research unit within the Institute of Education, University of London, and a designated research unit of the Department of Health. Its principal function is to carry out policy-relevant research within a changing world. The focus of its research is children and young people both within and outside their families. This includes care, education, health and social service settings.  

UNESCO's Early Childhood and Family Education Unit co-ordinates research, activities and initiatives undertaken by UNESCO in early childhood care and education, parent and family education, and early childhood research. UNESCO provides various services to its Member States, organizations and individuals working in favour of children and families; participates in United Nations or other international initiatives in favour of children and families; encourages governments to integrate early childhood and family education programmes in their long-term social and economic planning; provides assistance in the design and implementation of innovative, integrated early childhood and community-based family support programmes; acts as a networking and clearing centre on information on early childhood issues, policies, programmes and organizations.  

UNICEF  advocates and works for the protection of children's rights, to help the young meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. UNICEF, the only organization of the United Nations dedicated exclusively to children, works with other United Nations bodies, governments and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to lighten children's loads through community-based services in primary health care, basic education, and safe water and sanitation in developing countries.  

USAID's Center for Human Capacity Development is responsible for implementing the Agency's goal of "Building Human Capacity Through Education and Training". The center provides field support, technical leadership and research to help nations and field missions improve education and training and to help develop stable, democratic countries with thriving market economies and healthy, well educated families.  

U.S. Department of Education  provides national leadership and partnerships to address critical issues in American education; serves as a national clearinghouse of good ideas; helps families pay for college; helps local communities and schools meet the most pressing needs of their students; preparing students for employment in a changing economy;  and ensuring nondiscrimination by recipients of federal education funds.  

The World Bank ABC OF ECD  is a knowledge base on Early Child Developmentdesigned to assist task managers, practitioners, program designers, and decision makers in their efforts to promote the healthy growth and development of children from birth to age eight. It is divided into four sections dealing with what early childhood development (ECD) is and the theory underlying its techniques and programs, which benefits are gained from ECD interventions, how to design and run an ECD program and evaluate its efficacy, and how to do a cost-benefit analysis of an ECD program.  

World Health Organization's (WHO)  objective is the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health. Health, as defined in the WHO Constitution, is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.  
 

Zero to Three  intends to help children best navigate their first three years of life in order to develop a solid intellectual, emotional and social foundation. For parents and professionals alike, there's always something new and exciting to be discovered! 

On-Line ECD Journals & Reports 

The Brown University Child and Adolescent Behavior Letter introduces new and ongoing topics from behavioral research, as well as clinical practice. Book titles are also presented, relevant to the various issues featured in each newsletter.  

Child Welfare Review is an electronic journal that brings together current papers on important topics in child welfare. The goal is to collect the most important papers on child welfare subjects located on the web into one place. 

The Coordinators' Notebook    helps to map and monitor the field of early childhood development. At present, each issue contains: a focus article dealing with a major issue, accompanied by references and descriptions of relevant experiences; profiles of programs being implemented with support from CG participants, news from CG network participants; and information about recent publications, meetings and workshops. 

Early Child Development, Investing in the Future 

Early Childhood Digest  is a quarterly report on ways that families and schools can work together to help young children learn. 

Early Childhood News  features articles for professionals who work with youngchildren, from birth to six. Topics include child development, health and safety, curricula, guidance, art and music, nutrition, play, self-esteem, and professional development among others.  

Early Childhood Research Quarterly includes articles presenting significant research and scholarship on all topics related to the care and education of children from birth through 8 years. 

Early Childhood Today  is a Scholastic's magazine just for early childhood teachers and directors. On their web site you'll find activity ideas, curriculum suggestions, and more. 

Early Childhood Update  is a biannual newsletter which publishes articles of interest to the Early Childhood community. 

Family Matters  is the research journal of the Australian Institute of Family Studies. It reports on the research and related activities of the Institute, as well as on the work of other Australian and overseas family researchers and organisations. 

Focus: Special Edition on Early Childhood Interventions 

The Future of Children  disseminates timely information on major issues related to children's well-being, with special emphasis on providing objective analysis and evaluation, translating existing knowledge into effective programs and polices, and promoting constructive institutional change. In attempting to achieve these objectives, they are targeting a multidisciplinary audience of national leaders, including policymakers, practitioners, legislators, executives, and professionals in the public and private sectors.
